Back from the dead

Well, much blood was split, but I emerged stronger.

You may have noticed that posts stopped after early March. After much discussion and comment on the NCAA basketball season, this site went eerily quiet after the tournament started.

I think you all know what happened, but in case you were stuck in a Guatemalan prison or incredibly drunk (or both) for the past three months, I'll recap. The stupid Jayhawks lost in the first round. Again. To Butler. Or was it Baker? Oh right, the Bradley Saluki Irish Bulldogs.

I'll save the recriminations and justifications. It happened, it sucked all the joy out of writing about sports, and I resigned my position. Not even the Wichita State Shockers run to the Sweet Sixteen, which I correctly predicted, could make it any better. Especially after WSU went 1 for 7.890 from 3 in losing a winnable game against media sweetheart George Mason.

But as Dr King said, we must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope. So I'm back. I'm recovered, the pain has faded. Brandon and Julian are coming back (not that they really have anywhere to go this year), and Bill Self's patented late signing super star recruit system worked again this year. Last year we got Rush, this year we got 6'9" Darrell Arthur out of Dallas, the second-rated power forward in the nation. He'll be joining the team this fall along with Sherron Collins, the number two prep point guard (stinky UNC got both the No. 1 PF and PG in Brandan Wright and Tywon Lawson respectively).

This is exciting. Both Arthur and Collins, I believe, will be improvements over guys on last year's team. Point guard Russell Robinson and our troika of front court players (Kaun, Jackson, and Giles) are nice players, but they kinda stink in the area of putting the basketball through the hoop, which some say is an important part of the game. Replacing some of their minutes with quicker players who can score may, I don't know, improve the team.

NBA
Pistons over Mavs. In six. Kobe is a punk.

Football
The fall is a ways away, but after our awesome win over Nebraska was awesome. Here's the schedule, with head in the clouds predictions.

9/2 vs. Northwestern State W

9/9 vs. LA-Monroe W
9/15 @ Toledo W
9/23 vs. South Florida W
9/30 @ Nebraska L
10/7 vs. Texas A&M W
10/14 vs. Oklahoma State W
10/21 @ Baylor W
10/28 vs. Colorado W
11/4 @ Iowa State L
11/18 vs. K-State W
11/25 @ Missouri W

Final record 10-2, slaughtered in the Cotton Bowl by some SEC school.

I will be at that Toledo game. Look for me on ESPN2 that night.

The Royals suck. That should wrap it up.
